Assembled Holographic Imaging Radar and Measurement System (HIRMS)

The HIRMS system incorporates a large mechanical scanner capable of 40- x 40-foot scans. The entire system was designed by members if the Mechanical Solutions Group.

The boom is a composite structure 46 feet long that has a deflection of less than one inch at the tip with a 200-pound weight attached. The base of the structure is a custom made trailer that can be leveled both along the length and width to within 1/8th inch. Resolution and repeatability of the system is less than 1/2 inch in any point in the envelope.

The entire system can be assembled or disassembled in less than two hours and all of it stows on the trailer and is road-legal in all 48 contiguous states.

The system was about 30 months to design and fabricate at a cost of $1.3M.
