Radioactive Grab Sampler

Radioactive Grab Sampler

This all welded, helium leak tight grab sampler was used to sample radioactive steam that was carrying fission products from a severe fuel damage experiment in the NRU reactor at Chalk River Canada.

The test achieved fuel temperatures of 4,000° F and the steam, hydrogen, and fission products were directed to a condensing unit. The shielded grab sampler rested between the test section inside the reactor and the condensing unit which was on the operating deck of the reactor.
