Railroad Tunnel Robotic Inspection
The rail tunnel lifting platform was custom made for a deployment in 1998 into the rail tunnel of U-221 Building for the Andros robot. It has a very sturdy box frame structure, which provides a very stable lifting platform for a 2- by 4-foot mobile robot. It is constructed using locking pins to hold several pieces together so that all pieces can be hand carried into the canyon deck through a 20-inch wide opening. It is capable of deploying a 600-pound robot into the tunnel, complete with a cable reel with 200 feet of cable on it.
This unit is currently contaminated, but could be re-deployed in another contaminated environment.
